Hyundai Commission: Tarek Atoui

Tarek Atoui creates a new site-specific work for Tate Modern’s Turbine Hall as the 11th Hyundai Commission. The Paris-based Lebanese artist and composer is known for performances and installations that challenge how sound is produced, transmitted and perceived.

Drawing on research into music history, instrumentation and collaborative making, Atoui builds multisensory environments in which specially engineered instruments function simultaneously as sound-producing devices and sculptural objects.

The commission continues Tate Modern’s annual series of large-scale Turbine Hall projects and is free to visit.
